Ingredients

4 hot dogs

4 slices of your favorite bread (sourdough or whole grain works well)

4 slices of cheddar cheese

2 tablespoons butter, softened

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional toppings: mustard, ketchup, jalapeños, or pickles

Instructions

Prep the Hot Dogs: Preheat your grill or stovetop grill pan over medium heat. Cook the hot dogs on the grill for about 5-7 minutes, turning until heated through and evenly marked with grill lines.

Make the Cheese Bread: Meanwhile, take the slices of bread and spread a thin layer of softened butter on one side of each slice. Sprinkle the garlic powder and oregano over the butter for a burst of flavor.

Assemble the Sandwiches: On the unbuttered side of two slices, place a slice of cheddar cheese and then place the grilled hot dog on top. Add another slice of cheddar cheese followed by the remaining slices of bread, buttered side facing out.

Grill the Sandwiches: Place the assembled sandwiches in the preheated grill or pan. Grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted. Press down gently with a spatula to compact the sandwich while cooking.

Serve and Customize: Remove the sandwiches from the grill and slice them diagonally. Serve hot with your choice of toppings such as mustard, ketchup, jalapeños, or pickles.
