Ingredients

1 package of Hawaiian sweet rolls (12 rolls)

4 large eggs

1 cup of whole milk

1/4 cup of heavy cream

1/4 cup of brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Pinch of salt

2 tablespoons of unsalted butter (for cooking)

Maple syrup (for serving)

Fresh fruit (such as sliced bananas, strawberries, or pineapples for topping)

Powdered sugar (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Rolls: Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half and arrange them in a baking dish. You can either keep them intact or separate them for an airy texture.

Make the Custard Mixture: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until fully combined.

Soak the Rolls: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the sliced Hawaiian rolls. Let them soak for about 15-20 minutes, ensuring all rolls have absorbed the custard. For best results, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to an hour.

Preheat the Skillet: Heat a large non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter. Allow it to melt and coat the surface.

Cook the French Toast: Carefully place a few soaked rolls onto the skillet, cut-side down. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes on the other side. Repeat with remaining rolls, adding more butter as needed.

Serve: Stack the cooked French toast rolls on a plate. Drizzle with maple syrup, top with fresh fruit, and dust with powdered sugar for an extra touch!

Enjoy: Serve warm, and enjoy a taste of the islands with each delicious bite!
