Ingredients

2 teaspoons Matcha green tea powder

2 ounces hot water (not boiling, around 175°F or 80°C)

Sweetener to taste (optional, such as honey or agave syrup)

Milk or milk alternative for matcha latte (optional)

Ice cubes (if making iced matcha)

Instructions

Sift the Matcha: Start by sifting the matcha powder into a bowl using a fine mesh sieve. This helps eliminate clumps and ensures a smooth consistency.

Add Hot Water: Pour the hot water over the sifted matcha powder. Make sure the water is hot but not boiling to preserve the delicate flavors and health benefits of the matcha.

Whisk it Up: Using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a small electric whisk, start whisking the matcha in a zigzag motion until it becomes frothy and well combined. This usually takes about 30 seconds. If you don’t have a whisk, you can use a small milk frother or a spoon, though it may not get as frothy.

Customize: If you prefer a sweeter drink, add the sweetener of your choice and mix well. For a matcha latte, heat up your preferred milk and slowly pour it into the matcha, whisking until well combined.

Serve Hot or Iced: For hot matcha, pour into your favorite cup and enjoy! For an iced version, fill a glass with ice cubes and pour the whisked matcha over it, then add milk if desired and stir well.

Garnish (Optional): You can garnish with a sprinkle of matcha powder on top or add a sprig of mint for a fresh touch.
