1 lb ground sausage (Italian or breakfast sausage, your choice)

1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend for juiciness)

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

4 hamburger buns (preferably brioche)

4 slices of cheddar cheese

1 cup fresh arugula or spinach

1 large tomato, sliced

1 small red onion, thinly sliced

Your favorite condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, etc.)

Instructions
 

Prepare the Meat Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground sausage and ground beef. Sprinkle garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper over the mixture. Gently mix together without overworking the meat. Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and form them into balls.

    Heat the Grill or Skillet: Preheat your grill or a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. You want it hot enough to get a good sear on the burgers.

      Smash the Burgers: Once hot, place 4 meatballs on the grill or skillet. Using a spatula or a burger press, smash each meatball down until it’s about ½ inch thick. This will create a nice crust on the outside while keeping the inside juicy.

        Cook the Burgers: Allow the burgers to cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side. Flip them, then add a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each burger. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the burgers are cooked to your desired doneness.
