Ingredients

For the Brownies:

1/2 cup unsalted butter (114g)

1 cup granulated sugar (200g)

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (40g)

1/2 cup all-purpose flour (65g)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the Cookies:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (113g)

1/2 cup granulated sugar (100g)

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed (100g)

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (190g)

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (175g)

For Layering:

1/2 cup chocolate chips (for extra gooeyness)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan with cooking spray or line it with parchment paper for easier removal.

Make the Brownie Batter: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the 1/2 cup of butter for the brownies. Stir in the sugar until well incorporated. Add the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. Mix until smooth. Sift in cocoa, flour, salt, and baking powder, then mix until just combined (don’t overmix!). Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.

Make the Cookie Batter: In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fluffy. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, and fold in the chocolate chips.

Layer the Browkies: Drop spoonfuls of the cookie batter over the brownie batter in the pan. Use a knife or spatula to swirl the two batters together lightly, creating a beautiful marbled effect. Sprinkle half a cup of chocolate chips on top for extra gooeyness.

Bake: Place the pan in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (but not wet batter). Keep in mind that it will continue to cook slightly from residual heat.

Cool and Slice: Allow the Browkies to cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes, then lift them out (if using parchment) and cool completely on a wire rack. Once cooled, slice them into squares.

Serve and Enjoy: Serve your delicious fudgy chewy Browkies warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or enjoy them as is—either way, they’re a treat to remember!
